This is typically focused on an area of complaint and does not include the whole body. This is a perfect appointment for you if you are limited on time or don’t want full body work. Since many of us store tension in our upper back and neck, this is an area that is typically worked on during this massage. This is also a good length of time to focus on shoulder complaints and work on the tight muscles of the chest, neck and upper back to help free the shoulder joint.
90 minute massage is also a full body massage. It is very much like the 60 minute session, however, it allows a little extra time for each area. This is a great for you when you feel like that last 60 minute massage “was just not long enough.” About 45 minutes would be allotted to work on each side of your body.
A 60 minute session allows enough time for full body work. A typical session would involve working on the head, neck shoulders, arms and legs for about 20 minutes, 10 minutes working on the feet, which includes a heated foot treatment and then about 30 minutes on the back and leg area. This is an approximate time frame and varies from appointment to appointment depending on where you may have complaints that need focussed work.

hot stone massage
Hot Stone Massage is a form of massage therapy that follows the same principles of Swedish Massage with the addition of heated stones, which helps lead to deep relaxation. Adding heat to specific areas on the body enhances the feelings of relaxation and peace. The penetrating effects of the heated stones allows the massage to be delivered without excessive pressure. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly but is also good for those who enjoy a lighter touch during a massage. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system and is recommended in particular for individuals suffering from fibromyalgia, arthritis or other chronic pain.
The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. River rocks are normally used because they they have been smoothed over time by the river currents. The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heater until they are within a certain temperature range. The placement of the stones is usually at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes but may vary depending on the client's condition.
Bamboo massage is an innovative way to provide Swedish or deep tissue massage using heated bamboo to roll and knead the tissue to create a sensation of relaxation. Bamboo is also used to help those in need of deep tissue body work for overworked and injured muscles. This type of massage is similar to hot stone massage, it has the same warming, soothing effect but the bamboo holds the heat longer than stones. The massage is done with organically treated bamboo of different lengths and diameters. Longer sticks of various widths are used for gliding strokes, whereas the smaller tools can be used for more detailed work. Throughout the massage, the therapist will use several different warmed pieces of compressed bamboo to work out tension of each muscle. Long fluid strokes are used to stretch and compress the muscle and tissue.
